Manchester United are keeping tabs on Valencia winger Carlos Soler.

Jose Mourinho has recognized his side’s surprising lack of quality on the flanks and has been desperate to rectify the situation by signing a player who can add star quality from out wide.

However, he has found it very difficult to do so, with links to Gareth Bale and Alexis Sanchez proving to be unfounded, and the pursuit of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic leading him nowhere.

Soler has made a huge impression since breaking into the Valencia first team last December, and the 20-year-old’s performances have alerted United’s scouts to his potential.

He has started all 11 games in the league so far, picking up a goal and four assists in the process. His club appear to have benefited from his displays, as they are currently second in the table – four points ahead of the two Madrid giants, and four behind first-placed Barcelona.

According to reports in the Independent, his versatility along with his age could be exactly suited to the type of player Mourinho is looking for, but his price-tag may be an issue.

The fee being quoted for Soler is believed to be around £40 million, which seems quite over the top for a player who only made his debut 11 months ago.

Mourinho has also been informed that his funds will be restricted for the upcoming windows if he doesn’t let go of his fringe players, and he may have to take quick action if he really wants to sign the Valencia starlet.

The Independent suggest that Andreas Pereira may be key to any move for Soler. Pereira is on loan at the Spanish club from United, and is reportedly keen on staying at the club to develop even further. As a result, Mourinho may opt to sell the Brazilian to Los Che in an attempt to lower their asking price.
