Manchester United may be frantically searching for quality players in the transfer window before it closes, but face having to let go of some of their own in order to make room for fresh faces.

Though the club has already made two outfield signings this summer, Jose Mourinho has made public his desire to bring in at least two more players before the end of the transfer window.

In the meantime, he risks losing some of the talent at his disposal, with the threat of being benched increasingly looming.

Defenders in particular face the biggest threat of being let go, with the manager stressing on defence as the area for an overhaul. But if reports from L’Equipe are to be believed, he isn’t ready to release one particular defender.

WATCH: 5 Things Mourinho Needs To Fix At Manchester United Before Premier League Starts

The player is Victor Lindelof, who has been linked with French side Lyon as of late. The Swede made only 13 starts in a largely uneventful first season at Old Trafford, but has retained the confidence of his manager, with Mourinho telling the board not to sell him.

Lindelof was signed from Benfica last summer for a fee of £31 million, but faced some injury problems and fell down the pecking order simply because of a stiff competition for places.

But the center-back proved his worth recently at the World Cup in Russia with his country Sweden, defending brilliantly when called upon and leading his side to an impressive quarter-final appearance.

What Juventus Have Told Pogba And His Agent About Potential Transfer

The 24-year-old has been the subject of some debate, especially after United’s heavy interest in Harry Maguire of Leicester City became clear, but at this stage, it looks as if he’ll keep his place in the squad.

The same may not be said for Marcos Rojo, however, as the Argentine looks very likely to depart from Manchester United despite a decent showing for his country at the World Cup. But as always, only time will truly tell.

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire tops Manchester United’s wishlist as the deadline day nears.

Manchester United have had a pretty poor transfer window this summer. The Red Devils were quick to open their account, as they sealed deals for Diogo Dalot and Fred. Lee Grant became their third signing, as Joel Pereira is anticipating a loan move to develop his skills.

But things have stalled at Old Trafford since then. Jose Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure, as United officials have failed to bring in his transfer targets. Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld was on the top of his wishlist, but negotiations haven’t moved further since he travelled to Russia.

Manchester United officials contacted Daniel Levy to inquire about his price, and were informed that they would have to pay above £60 million, which they weren’t ready to pay, as the defender would cost only £25 million next summer.

With the transfer deadline day arriving on August 9, Jose Mourinho has decided to focus on bringing in Harry Maguire to solve his centre-back issues. As per The Times, United are lining up a move for the Leicester City defender, and hope to bring him to Old Trafford before the season begins.

RELATED:

COMPARISON: Alderweireld vs Maguire – Who Should Man United Sign?

Jose Mourinho is in the process of revamping his defence. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been far from impressive over the past two seasons. Last summer’s recruit, Victor Lindelof, is finding it difficult to adjust to life in England.

The United gaffer also seemed to have banished Eric Bailly towards the end of last season, but things have improved  now, as Jose himself confirmed that the Ivorian will not be sold at any cost.

RELATED:

The Defender United Will Sell Before Making A Move For Maguire Or Alderweireld

But the club still lacks the voice of a ‘general’ who can organize the defence efficiently. The Portuguese boss made attempts to bring in Leonardo Bonucci, but the Italian’s heart is set at a Juventus return.

Harry Maguire seems a good choice to lead United’s backline, considering his performances in Russia this summer. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Reds can seal this deal and integrate him to the squad before the season begins on 10th August.

Reason Why United Fans Believe Alexis Sanchez Will Be Amazing This Season

Reason Why United Fans Believe Alexis Sanchez Will Be Amazing This Season
Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez.

Reuters/Andrew Couldridge

Alexis Sanchez enjoyed a long vacation this summer, and showed signs of brilliance in Manchester United‘s ICC opener against AC Milan.

The Red Devils are in the middle of a striker crisis at this moment. They are set to be without the likes of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku for the start of the season due to the duo’s long involvement at the World Cup in Russia.

Anthony Martial has failed to impress Jose Mourinho, and having already left the pre-season tour, he is now also likely to leave Old Trafford this summer.

This means Alexis Sanchez is the only striker option Mourinho has for the season opener against Leicester City on 10th August. But Manchester United fans are pretty excited to see him lead the line next season.

WATCH: Alderweireld vs Maguire – Who Should Manchester United Sign

The Chilean International is well rested, as he wasn’t involved in any summer competition for the first time in five years.

Alexis joined the Manchester United pre-season squad late, as he faced visa issue due to his tax fraud case. But the forward was on fire when he made his appearance against AC Milan in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.

RELATED:

Reason Why Anthony Martial Has Left Pre-Season Tour

Sanchez was excellent, as he scored the opener for the Red in a game that finished 1-1. United won the game on a 13-round penalty shootout that ended 9-8 in their favour. The 29-year old made all the headlines post full-time.

Here are some of the tweets and reactions to Sanchez’s brilliant performance against the Rossoneri:

First summer in five years Alexis Sanchez has not played in an international tournament – and it shows. Menacing and full of energy on United's pre-season tour after admitting he was exhausted midway through last season. Can only be a good thing #mufc

— Ciaran Kelly (@MENCKelly) July 26, 2018

. @Alexis_Sanchez looking sharp this pre season. I know it’s only early but he seems to have that extra burst in him. Fitness is 🔑 #MUFC

— Danny Webber 🐝 (@DanielWebber81) July 26, 2018

The lack of pre-season saw Alexis Sanchez endure a pretty rusty start at Arsenal. This time around, the Chilean has got ample rest to cool down from last season, and has enough time to make a connection with his teammates.

It will be interesting to see if he can help Mancunian giants win major titles in the season to come.

Two Premier League Powerhouses Lodge Their Interest In Thiago Alcantara

Two Premier League Powerhouses Lodge Their Interest In Thiago Alcantara

REUTERS/Albert Gea

Manchester United and Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Thiago Alcantara this week.

The Premier League transfer deadline is approaching soon, and the big clubs are still looking to complete signings that will help them lift trophies next season. Manchester United and Chelsea are two clubs who are yet to make any significant moves this summer.

The Red Devils have sealed three deals – Diogo Dalot, Fred, and Lee Grant, but they are squad players rather than an upgrade to existing options. On the other hand, Jorginho, who came in with Sarri from Napoli, is the only first team player Chelsea have signed.

The Premier League giants have been linked with a number of players over the past week. According to ESPN, both United and Chelsea have now contacted Bayern Munich to enquire about their Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alcantara.

How Barcelona Could Line Up In 2018/19

The 27-year old is poised to make a move away from the Allianz Arena. The German Champions are pretty much stacked in the midfield department, with the likes of Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Rudy, and Corentin Tolisso playing in the same position as Thiago.

RELATED:

Jose Mourinho Reveals Why He Signed Fred This Summer

Therefore, the Spaniard wants to move on from Bayern Munich, as he expects a lack of playing time next season.

Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic mentioned that the club wanted to keep hold of Thiago. But earlier this summer, reports emerged that Bayern Munich would allow the player to leave for €70 million.

RELATED:

“I Would Get Two More Players,” Mourinho Reveals Transfer Plan

Thiago was expecting to make a return to Barcelona, but Blaugranas refused to match Bayern’s valuation. With his former club out of the fray, the Premier League seems to be his most likely destination.

Manchester United surely have the upper hand if this goes into a bidding war. The Reds could boast about their Champions League status to bring Thiago to Old Trafford, but the Blues wouldn’t have this luxury, as they finished outside the top 4 last season, only securing a Europa League spot.

Mourinho Interested In Croatian Star, And It’s Not Perisic

BlameFootball
Mourinho Interested In Croatian Star, And It’s Not Perisic

REUTERS/Carl Recine

Jose Mourinho is now considering alternatives for Chelsea‘s Willian, as he is reluctant to pay a fee of around £80m for a player about to turn 30. Now, Croatia’s World Cup star Ante Rebic is the latest name to crop up on the Special One’s radar, as per the Independent.

The Portuguese is determined to bring in the type of wide player he feels is essential to his system this summer. Although Willian has long been his primary target, the difficulty of the deal has led to Manchester United looking at other targets.

It’s just that, continuing what has already been a frustrating summer, there are similar complications with other options.

Ivan Perisic was the winger Jose wanted to bring in last year, but United couldn’t strike a deal with Internazionale. Although Mourinho would greatly like the Croatian again, his brilliant performances at the World Cup have seen his price explode.

WATCH: Every Confirmed Premier League Transfer

There isn’t the same reticence about Gareth Bale, who turned 29 last week. The Welshman, however, has proven credentials as Premier League Player of the Year for the 2012-13 season. Many within United view him as more of an Ed Woodward target than a Mourinho one.

RELATED:

Man United Ready To Sell Anthony Martial – But There’s One Problem

While the Portuguese would of course find great use for the Welsh star, he would still want a focus on other options. This is also why United are looking at Perisic’s international teammate Rebic, who had a similar impact at the World Cup.

Any pursuit would not quite be as complicated as other targets, since there is now a feeling the 24-year-old could do with a step-up from Eintracht Frankfurt.

RELATED:

Manchester United Receive Harry Maguire Boost

Manchester United could, however, face competition from Bayern Munich in a prospective bidding war.

Rebic was a crucial cog in Croatia’s wheels this summer, and had better outings than his counterpart on the other wing. It remains to be seen where he lands before the start of the season.

What Ronaldo’s Departure Could Mean For Gareth Bale

What Ronaldo’s Departure Could Mean For Gareth Bale
Real Madrid's Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

REUTERS/Sergio Perez

Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus are now the next big tale in European football.

Confirmation was given by Real Madrid that the 33-year-old forward would, in fact, join Juventus from the upcoming season.

However, now that the news has been confirmed, big questions will be asked of the players left behind at Real Madrid, and that of Gareth Bale in particular.

The Welshman was the primary individual who appeared exit-bound from even before this window, until Ronaldo’s post-Champions League final remarks trumped Bale’s own and now his transfer will have set another precedent.

Now, a Real Madrid without the Portuguese could certainly mean great things for the former Tottenham star. According to Spanish publication AS, Bale will be present when the Spanish side starts their pre-season next Monday, and a meeting with new gaffer Lopetegui is imminent.

RELATED:

Real Madrid Want United Forward As Ronaldo Replacement, Will Offer Bale In Return

This meeting, however, is believed to be casual in nature and not the tense talks that were anticipated prior to the resignation of Zidane.

The report adds that a previously planned meeting between the club and the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has been canceled. This can be interpreted as a positive thing for his future at the Bernabeu.

However, it still remains to be seen how the new gaffer views Bale in his plans for Madrid. It is clear that he won’t settle for yet another season of playing second fiddle, and may possibly view to replace Ronaldo in the side.

RELATED:

What Patrice Evra Has Told Ronaldo Regarding The Move To Juventus

Further, if Madrid decide to go ballistic rather than play it safe and purchase big names like Neymar or Mbappe immediately, then Bale may once again be exit-bound.

This seems unlikely though, and he could certainly function for another season or two with the La Liga giants.

Brazilian Ace Quits Barcelona After Just A Single Season At The Club

Paulinho’s stint at Barcelona has come to an end after just one season at the club.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder had joined the Catalan giants in 2017, but is now going back to the Chinese Super League.

Paulinho, who made a serious impact for Barca in the 2017-18 season, is heading out on loan to Guangzhou Evergrande. He is rejoining the club, with both teams confirming the same through their official accounts.

Paulinho played 34 games and scored nine goals for La Liga champions, and also won the Copa del Rey. The Brazilian also started each of the five matches at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018, as his side bowed out in the quarters after a loss against Belgium.

Earlier, he had made 63 league appearances for Guangzhou Evergrande from 2015-2017. Meanwhile, Barca also confirmed that the Chinese club have an option to make the loan deal permanent.

“FC Barcelona and Guangzhou Evergrande have reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Paulinho Bezerra for one season, with a subsequent purchase option for the Chinese club,” a statement on Barcelona‘s website read.

This comes as a bit of shock to fans, who were impressed by his impact for the Spanish club in a key midfield role. Legend Andres Iniesta too, departed the club at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Now, the Catalans will undoubtedly look into the summer transfer market in order to bolster their midfield options.

Paulinho has helped Guangzhou to three consecutive league titles and an Asian Champions League crown during his previous spell in China.

Gianluigi Buffon has completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Buffon announced his emotional departure from Juventus towards the end of last season. During his 17-year stint, the Italian maestro made 656 appearances for the Old Lady, winning almost everything except the Champions League.

Buffon is well respected amongst the fans mainly because he stayed with the club after they were relegated to the Serie B following a betting scandal.

There were reports that the Italian was offered an off-field job at Juventus, but the goalkeeper did not intend to stop playing just yet.

With the World Cup almost all set to get into the quarter-finals stage of the tournament, European giants may have finally received the wake-up call they needed.

The days between the final of the World Cup and the transfer deadline day are bound to go about quite quickly, with friendlies and early prep dominating the agenda.

However, this will also mean that targets who may have escaped attention due to the antics going on in Russia will now find themselves spearheaded by offers. Anthony Martial has been one such player, and a tempting deal may now await him.

According to an exclusive report by the Daily Star, Bayern Munich are now the latest club who fancy a try at prying away the French youngster.

However, it is thought quite clearly that the higher-ups at Old Trafford do not wish to get rid of the player, as they see in him a great potential for the club’s long-term future.

What will it be then for the doubtful Frenchman?

Sam Johnstone, Manchester United‘s reserve goalkeeper, will be moving to West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies have replaced Watford-bound Ben Foster with the 25-year-old. The transfer fee is an initial sum of £6.5 million, which could rise to £10 million.

Johnstone was a key member of Aston Villa’s starting XI last season. The loan spell has done him a world of good, and should stand him in good stead in the Premier League.

The custodian started in goal for 48 Championship games. Villa made it to the Championship Playoff Final last season. He made an average of 2.9 saves per game, and was an ever-present without losing his run of form.

Ben Foster, the keeper Johnstone will be replacing, is a United product as well. Having served as a backup goalkeeper in the first team for 5 years, he moved to Birmingham in 2010, before a loan spell and a permanent switch to West Brom.

The Baggies are getting a good, young replacement with upside. Johnstone’s age and ability indicate that he could still improve with time.

The 25-year-old’s first taste of the senior pros came 5 years ago with Doncaster. He then spent the next 6 months with Yeovil. Following a return to United gone awry, he earned a move to Preston. This didn’t give him much playing time either, which prompted a move to Villa in 2016 with much greater success.

West Brom have the benefit of parachute payments to ease their drop to the second tier. They seem fairly confident of keeping several of their key players in their bid for automatic promotion.

Keeping their squad together will be a priority. Without players of Premier League quality, a drop to the lower leagues can often result in the unforgiving English Football Leagues.

West Brom have had a history as a yo-yo club, and they would do well to earn automatic promotion next season with Johnstone between the sticks.
