Marouane Fellaini has yet again stolen the spotlight when he shattered the deadlock between Arsenal and Manchester United last night.

The powerful midfielder dramatically netted a late strike to shift the scoreline to his side’s favour, essentially ravaging the anticipations of the travelling side.

Nevertheless, the former Everton star has reportedly divulged what Jose Mourinho described to him before he came on to score the crucial strike.

Paul Pogba had got the home crowd dynamic early on when he marked the opener in the 16th minute of the widely anticipated fixture. The Mancunians managed to hold the lead thus bestowed by the Frenchman intact until Mkhitaryan netted a long-range shot in the opening moments of the latter half.

In Arsene Wenger’s final match as the Gunners’ boss at Old Trafford, the Belgium international started on the bench to witness the scoreline shift to 1-1 and staying that way for quite some time.

Accordingly, the Portuguese tactician deployed Fellaini in the hopes of breaking the deadlock and the skilful figure revealed what the gaffer told him just before he stepped onto the field.

He told Optus Sport: “He told me to go into the box because I have the possibility to keep the balance with the midfielder.”

“One point wouldn’t have been too bad but in the end, we have three points and that’s most important today. I know my quality I know if the ball comes into the box I can be dangerous, it was a good ball, I tried to flick it, it’s good for me and good for the club.”

What David De Gea Tells Ander Herrera Before Every Game

What David De Gea Tells Ander Herrera Before Every Game

Reuters / Dylan Martinez

Ander Herrera has revealed that David de Gea doesn’t just play like the best goalkeeper in the world, he has the confidence to match his ability too.

The De Gea of today is a stark contrast to the scrawny 20-year-old that first arrived on English shores, and his transformation into the best goalkeeper in the world has been nothing short of remarkable.

Back in 2011, he arrived at Old Trafford almost as if he were a boy who lost his parents in the local supermarket. He could not speak a word of English, and after the first few games, he seemed well out of his depth. He could not deal with the physicality of the opposition players, and especially struggled with crosses.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson continued to believe in him and that faith has paid off in leaps and bounds.

The 27-year-old is now widely acclaimed as the best goalkeeper in the world, and he exuberates the confidence that was drilled into him by the legendary United boss and Eric Steele both on and off the pitch.

According to Ander Herrera, that self-belief spreads throughout the entire squad and serves as a reassuring reminder that they can rely on him if things aren’t going their way in a game.

“Before games, I’m a bit crazy,” Herrera reveals. “I get tense, I shake, dance.

“David pats me on the back, shrugs and says, ‘No, Ander, stand still, don’t worry, it can’t go wrong. If they shoot, they cannot score because I’m in goal’. It’s like nothing has happened.

“In the FA Cup semi-final against Everton in 2016, he saved a penalty from Romelu Lukaku and after the game he’s just like, “OK, that happened. What do you want to do tomorrow?” It’s like a student handing in an assignment and moving on. This is greatness.”

Real Madrid eked out a 2-1 victory against Bayern Munich in their first leg encounter of the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League tie at the Allianz Arena. The win gives the holders a vital advantage going into the 2nd leg tie at the Santiago Bernabeu in a week’s time.

One player who really shined in the match was Marcelo. The Brazilian equalised for Real in the first half after Joshua Kimmich had earlier scored for the hosts in the 28th minute.

The left-back continued his sublime form in the Champions League after smashing home a half-volley from the edge of the penalty area.

It was a superb goal by the defender that helped Los Blancos get into the game with a lot of confidence from there on. Marco Asensio then netted the winner to settle the tie and help Real beat Bayern for the sixth successive time.

But one thing that caught the eye in the match was Marcelo trapping the ball from a Raphael Varane’s lofted cross pass. The star defender controlled the ball with fine precision as it looked very pleasing to the eye.

Watch it for a hundred times and one will still how brilliantly was that piece of football by the star defender.

This isn’t the first time that he has done this sort of a thing. Earlier in the Madrid derby in La Liga, the player took a mesmerising touch to give the ball to Isco at the closing stages.

The gifted player has time and time again shown the gift he possess in such moments with the ball. No wonder he is regarded as the best left-back at the moment the world.

Marcus Rashford just landed the sweetest ever gift from one of the best players in football, and the 20-year-old Manchester United striker will never forget the gesture.

Rashford has made 47 appearances for United this season, scoring 12 goals in return. It may not have been the season he wanted in terms of goal returns, but given his age, it is surely a step-by-step progression.

The versatile player has been praised largely by manager Jose Mourinho, and the starlet has a bright future ahead of him.

It has been a tough going for the promising forward since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, who has taken the left berth of a 4-3-3 attacking system under Jose. But the player knows he has the time to develop under the reputed manager, who has won it all in his illustrious career.

WATCH: Players Reaction To Liverpool vs Roma 5-2

The England international received a special jersey as a gift from former Manchester United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid record goal-scorer sent Rashford an iconic Real Madrid home jersey that bears his name. It also consisted of his signature and a special note, which read: “To Marcus. Keep up the good work.”

This shows that the Portuguese maintains an eye on Rashford’s performance, as he clearly feels the player could go on to become an icon in the coming years.

What the message will do for Marcus is that it will give him added confidence going forward when representing United on the pitch.

Ronaldo is a role model for every young player, alongside Lionel Messi, and the United academy graduate will surely hope to follow the legend’s footsteps in creating a name for himself.

Meanwhile, the Real Madrid superstar will be in action for the La Liga heavyweights in the semi-final first leg tie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League later tonight.

Tottenham Player High Up On Jose Mourinho’s Transfer Wishlist

BlameFootball
Tottenham Player High Up On Jose Mourinho’s Transfer Wishlist

REUTERS/Hannah McKay

Transfer plans will already be doing the rounds in Jose Mourinho’s mind going into a summer window that is shortened.

The side he currently commands, despite its diversity in terms of having too many talents in one area, has its flaws that require immediate addressing.

Regardless of how smart of a style it may seem to deploy Young and Valencia, both one-time attacking wide-men at the club, as full-backs, it is not one that the Portuguese gaffer can hope to bank upon for the long-term.

Both of them are 32 years of age, and even though they may play in a manner that doesn’t make it seem so, new arrivals are a must.

RELATED:

Cristiano Ronaldo Knows Who Will Become United’s Next No. 10

This is to add to the fact that a full-back seems to perpetually exist on Mourinho’s wishlist at United, and is an area he hasn’t had much luck at yet, despite the kind of names he has been reportedly trying to attain.

Foremost in this is Tottenham’s Danny Rose, who has been linked with an Old Trafford move from quite a while now. The 27-year-old suffered an injury in recent months, which made a move in January not seem like a possible prospect.

RELATED:

Everyone Is Loving What Pogba Did With Dembele

However, The Guardian now reckons that Mourinho is hopeful of getting him to play at the club.

The big issue will be the price that Spurs may hold out for the pacey left-back. Daniel Levy is not known to be the most accommodating of negotiators, and the general asking price for the kinds of Walker and Mendy will ensure that Rose too, won’t come for cheap.

However, Mourinho may not have the luxury of holding out and playing a bargain, what with Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian believed to be on their way away from the club when the window reopens, with the latter already reported to have locked down a move to Italy.

Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham: 5 Talking Points

BlameFootball
Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham: 5 Talking Points

Reuters/Carl Recine

‘Wembley, Wembley, we’re the famous Man United and we’re going to Wembley’.

And so they will. For the second time in three seasons, Manchester United will be partaking in the final of the FA Cup.

What a game this was. Despite Spurs starting out as the better of the two teams in both halves, United fought their way back into it and gritted their teeth in.

The Red Devils’s record against the big clubs this season has been overlooked a number of times this season, but there was nowhere else to turn this time round. When it mattered most, they turned up once again and made the night their own, much to the dismay of the Spurs fans, whose wait for a first major trophy in a decade carries on another year.

WATCH: What Paul Pogba Did With Dembele

Dele Alli’s opener was cancelled out by Alexis Sanchez’s equalizer, before Ander Herrera booked United’s return to Wembley next month with a rasping low drive. Here are five talking points from the semi-final showdown.

1. Spurs’s fast start followed by a slow crumble

The last time these two sides faced off at Wembley, it took Spurs a little under a minute to find themselves in front through Christian Eriksen. They were utterly dominant in that game too, and held on to the momentum from the opener to win 2-0.

While it wasn’t quite as fast a start as that game, they were just as dominant at the beginning of both halves in this one. They enjoyed upwards of 70% in possession in the opening 10 minutes, and when Alli put them ahead in the 11th minute, it looked set to be a repeat of what we saw at the start of February.

However, almost immediately after the first went in, they seemed to take their foot off the gas and United were allowed to gradually grow into the game. Despite missing a handful of chances to make it 2-0, they started to relinquish the early stranglehold they had and were soon made to pay for it when Paul Pogba’s cross found the head of Sanchez and parity was restored.

Pochettino’s men began the second half pretty much the same way. Dominated possession, created numerous chances with no end product and ultimately slowed down, allowing United back into the game and Ander Herrera made them pay yet again with the decisive finish. Still a lot of work to be done.

RELATED:

Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

2. Fans left scratching heads at questionable team selection from Pochettino

Spurs had a big part to play in their own demise, but a number of fans had felt they had already shot themselves in the foot with Pochettino’s team selection.

The Argentine opted to leave out Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld – the club’s best goalkeeper and defender respectively – for the biggest game of their season, and fans were understandably left scratching their heads wondering what their manager was thinking.

3. United’s big players step up to the plate

REUTERS/Andrew Yates

The semi-final of a prestigious trophy – a chance to take away some credit from what has otherwise been a season of progress that has been overshadowed by the sheer brilliance of their cross-town rivals. These are the games that matter. These are the games where you need your best players to step up and show just why they are handed such a title amongst the other members of the first team squad, and why their club pays them so much money to play for them. These are the games where those players show their worth, and that is exactly what Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez did.

So often this season, the duo have been criticized for not showing up and playing as if ‘they were on a school playground’ having a kick about with their mates. However, when United needed saving, for the second time in the last three weeks, they showed up to the party and made their VIP status known.

Two weeks ago, the duo combined brilliantly to come from two behind against City and win 3-2 to prevent them from winning the title on derby day. Against Spurs in the semi-final, they did it again but swapped positions as Pogba laid on the assist for Sanchez to score the equalizer. Both players started the game slow but were instrumental to their side growing back into the game and were absolutely magnificent from then on, constantly making their presence felt either tracking back or going forward. Mourinho called for a special performance from them before the game, and he will not have been disappointed.

A special mention to the ever reliable Ander Herrera, who Mourinho always seems to trust on the big occasion and is never left disappointed. The midfielder always plays with his heart on his sleeve and got stuck in a number of times at Wembley. Despite a slow start, he kept his team ticking and put his all into his goal that turned out to be the winner. He may come into criticism for the way he conducts himself on the pitch sometimes, but there was absolutely no questioning his commitment here at Wembley. Brilliant player.

RELATED:

Fans Are Loving What Romelu Lukaku Has Done Off The Pitch

4. Jesse Lingard must start the final

There are times certain players can go under the radar if their performances are overshadowed by either a brilliant goal or assist by one of their team-mates, and it is pretty fair to say that Lingard’s display was just that.

He might not have had decisive touch in either of his side’s goals, but there was absolutely no question that he was one of the silent standout performers on the night. He was always there to link up play, and his running between the channels was an absolute nightmare for the defense. He creates so much space and confuses the opposition with his running. He makes his team-mates think differently and gives them new ideas when he pops up in unexpected areas of the pitch. Spurs just couldn’t live with him.

It is absolute genius and a proper scary prospect to defend against. On so many occasions this season he has been the one shining light and a constant energetic presence in this team. It is a must that he starts the final.

5. The Stats Game

Reuters/Carl Recine

Statistics can either be something to show off or a massive burden to carry around, and unfortunately for Tottenham, their part of the numbers game falls into the latter category.

The defeat to United meant Spurs have now lost the last eight consecutive FA Cup semi-finals they have been in. While Mauricio Pochettino’s transformation of the club has seen the Lilywhites become a force to be reckoned with once more in England, there is still absolutely nothing to show for the progress he has made with this team since his arrival at the club. Spurs have not won a single trophy in ten years now – their last coming in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the League Cup back in 2008.

United on the other hand, are in their second FA Cup final in three years. The club had previously gone 12 years without lifting the trophy, but have seen quite an improvement in the competition in recent seasons. Jose Mourinho will hope to guide them to victory in the final, and if he is successful in doing so, he will carry on a remarkable record of winning at least one trophy in every single year of his career as a manager.

If United do win the FA Cup again, they will once again join Arsenal as the most successful team in the competition. They currently have 12 titles to their name, as opposed to current holders Arsenal’s 13.

P.S: Where was Harry Kane? Wembley’s Twitter account certainly doesn’t want to know…

Tottenham's Harry Kane helps up Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez.

REUTERS/Eddie Keogh

As mentioned in one of the aforementioned points, you always want your biggest players to show up in the biggest game of your season. So where exactly was Harry Kane? The man whose shoulders England’s World Cup dreams are said to be resting on put on a no show at Wembley. Despite the fact that he was almost invisible, he still turned out to be the star of the show…to the twitter memers at least.

If anyone says Kane they’re getting blocked https://t.co/SZCEQJymG6

— Wembley Stadium (@wembleystadium) April 21, 2018

Wembley’s official twitter account put out a question on Twitter asking its followers which of the three goals scored was the best. After Kane’s shenanigans at Stoke recently, where he swore on his life that he had touched the ball in a goal that was initially handed to Christian Eriksen before Tottenham pleaded with the F.A to award it to the Englishman, there really was only one reply they could have expected.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as if the person handling the stadium’s twitter account realizes how the internet works, and another tweet was soon put out referencing the earlier tweet stating that anyone who said Kane’s name would be blocked. As expected, fans immediately replied to the follow up tweet with Kane’s name or pictures of Kane without stating his name and so on. What a hilarious mess.

The Napoli midfielder has had a sensational season for his club in the Serie A this season, and has drawn interest from a number of Europe’s best clubs as a result.

The Premier League seems to be his most likely destination if he does move though, with Liverpool and the Mancunian giants, United and City, showing firmness in their interest.

However, if Jorginho’s social media activity is anything to go by, he may have already hinted at his preferred destination once he leaves Naples.

Social media erupted when it had been discovered that Jorginho had liked the post, encouraging hopes that a move to Liverpool could be a very real possibility in the summer.

However, the Reds will face competition from United and City, who are both keen to bring in reinforcements in their midfield positions.

REUTERS/Ian Walton

Jose Mourinho brought in seven changes to the Manchester United side post their defeat against West Bromwich Albion over the weekend. The team held on to an away 2-0 victory against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Chris Smalling scored from a sublime Jesse Lingard cross, as Romelu Lukaku added the second which ensured second placed United to derive much needed confidence ahead of the crucial semi-final encounter in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Here’s how Jose Mourinho’s men fared during the crunch encounter against Eddie Howe’s side away from home.

David de Gea: 7

The Spaniard had little to do besides a regular save from Ryan Fraser’s well taken shot.

Matteo Darmian: 4

Got a rare chance but couldn’t quite capitalise on it. Offered nothing when going forward and looked vulnerable in defence.

Chris Smalling: 7

Scored a crucial goal and made up for the early vulnerabilities in defence to grow into the game.

Phil Jones: 8

Made a comfortable return after an injury as he looked purposeful and confident making challenges and interceptions. Denied Callum Wilson with a sturdy challenge.

WATCH: 5 Players Manchester United Could Sell In Summer

Luke Shaw: 5

Looked steady although could have done better with his crossing. Almost gave a penalty away only for the referee to deny Bournemouth.

Ander Herrera: 8

The Spaniard was one of United’s best player on the pitch. Made that sublime pass for Lingard which in turn helped United take the lead.

Marouane Fellaini: 6

Tried to be physical and seeing himself getting involved but did not offer much in midfield.

Paul Pogba: 7

Played well at times going forward but lacked the cutting edge. Fed Lukaku a delightful pass later on to help United go 2-0 up.

Jesse Lingard: 7

Assisted Smalling for United’s opener besides showing the energy going forward. Was sloppy at times though.

Marcus Rashford: 6

Got into interesting positions and tested Asmir Begovic. Was a bit poor with his decision making at times.

Anthony Martial: 6

Looked lively at the start but started to lose the impact. Couldn’t quite create the impact he wanted to.

Substitutions:

Romelu Lukaku: 7

Came in after the hour mark and after missing a free-kick, latched on to Pogba’s pass to scoop the ball above Begovic for the second goal.

Nemanja Matic: 6

Replaced Herrera for the final 20 minutes and did a good job in holding the midfield.

Daley Blind: 4

Came in for the final 10 minutes and wasted a good opportunity to shoot after misplacing his kick.

The Premier League trophy,

Players from sides that normally aren’t fan favorites and giants in the European game are naturally shrugged as a consequence. A rare exception to this, obviously, is when talented individuals put up performances worthy of noticing.

In the bigger context, being noticed can also translate to being wanted, and a transfer might just loom around the corner for the players that found themselves lucky enough to have attracted the right type of attention.

Now, one Watford player, in particular, might just have got his luck sorted if reports of Premier League giants seeking him out are true.

As per Sky Sports, Man Utd, Tottenham, and Everton are all monitoring the situation of Watford’s young striker, Richarlison.

WATCH: Top 10 Man Utd Summer Transfer Targets

The Brazilian was signed by the club last season from Fluminense, and showed a promising start to life in England with five goals coming out of his first 12 games alone. This sort of performance had led many clubs to believe he was a rising star of greater potential.

However, that seems to have diminished quite a bit, with the 20-year-old having failed to find a goal since November of 2017, and his total appearances this season having notched up to a troublesome 36.

RELATED NEWS:

REVEALED: The Incredible Gift Cristiano Ronaldo Has Sent For Marcus Rashford

This has led the source to claim that Watford are worried about the situation of the starlet, and about the fact that he has been playing constant football without a break for 12 months now, due to his Brazilian stint being followed up by a quick English transfer.

As a result, the fatigue might be catching up to him, and the side may begin to entertain an offer if it comes along from any of these clubs.

Although, they won’t be pleasant sellers, as the source adds that they would only consider an offer of £40 million or so due to the termination of his existing five-year-deal.

To add to the fray is the fact that Chelsea reportedly sought to sign the player at the same time Watford did, but the prospects of first-team football swayed his mind – something these clubs shouldn’t forget.

Transfer sagas between United and City seem to see no end in sight, as the bitter rivals appear adamant to lock their horns on all grounds possible.

Having just seen a derby wherein the Red Devils emerged triumphantly, the focus was shifted to the potential of the two clubs fighting over a common target.

That saga referred to the impending decision of Brazilian midfielder Fred, as to which club he would join in the summer with both the rivals in strong pursuit. However, along those very lines, another target has emerged, and this one is from France.

As per a report in Paris United, Mancunian giants may attempt to sign PSG’s Adrien Rabiot this summer, in view of the fact that the player is out of contract in 2019. The source added that the clubs were ‘on the lookout’ over the possibility of him moving to England.

This isn’t the first time an English club has sought to achieve his signature, with Tottenham being repeatedly linked with him in the past windows even before his rise to prominence. However, on each occasion, the 23-year-old Frenchman has sought to remain with his boyhood club.

But things may change this time around, with his contract on the cusp of expiring, and he might consider a move to a foreign club.

However, the same source reckons this is very unlikely, and has also reported that PSG are preparing a new bumper contract. This would indicate that the Parisians value him far too much and won’t let go of him easily.

However, he certainly fits quite well in Jose Mourinho’s desperation for a midfielder in the summer window, and in view of potential exits and retirements, it may very soon develop into a tactical necessity than just a transfer requirement.

City, on the other hand, seem to just fancy their chances, and are likely interested due to his proven ability and to reinforce their general area of interest, one that is already quite remarkable.

Will the pull of Mancunian football finally emerge stronger than the love for one’s boyhood club?

Çağlar Söyüncü could end up signing for either of Manchester United or Manchester City in the summer, his former manager has claimed.

The Turkish defender is still a relatively unknown commodity, but is starting to make a name for himself in Germany with Freiburg.

Having signed for the club two years ago from TFF 1.League side Altinordu, Söyüncü has become a crucial part of the Bundesliga side’s backline, making 27 appearances for them this season, while also managing to nick a goal in the process.

His performances have earned him admirers from some of the biggest clubs in England, with both Arsenal and Manchester City reportedly showing an interest.

He also added Manchester United’s name to list of destinations the starlet could end up going to, and spoke glowingly about the youngster’s potential to become one of the best defenders on the continent.

Eroglu said: “I think Caglar will go to England at the end of the season. He came from our own academy and is now doing well in the Bundesliga. For me, he’ll go to Manchester United or Manchester City at the end of the year and be one of the best defenders.”

Altinordu also inserted a clause in his contract when he signed for Freiburg, stating that they are entitled to earn around 30% from the fee of his next transfer.

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world on Tuesday with a stunning overhead kick against Juventus.

The goal is regarded as one of the most spectacular ones to rustle the net, and has forced some praise out of Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic and former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Portuguese leaped in the air during the second half, moments before extending Real Madrid’s lead in the Champions League quarter-finals. This once-in-a-generation strike was certainly a sight to behold.

And needless to say, it didn’t fail to impress everyone, including Rakitic, who believes Ronaldo deserves a lot of credit for the ‘awesome’ goal.

“We have to congratulate Ronaldo on his goal, it was awesome,” the Croatian told reporters [via Sports Mole] following Barca’s 4-1 win against AS Roma.

“It is difficult to find the right words. Real Madrid dominated all aspects of their match and played really well, so we have to congratulate them.”

Though Ibrahimovic isn’t usually someone who admires others, he summed it up quite well.

“I think it’s a big difference, because he scored in the Champions League, I scored in MLS,” the striker told ESPN FC. “It’s a big difference.

“A goal is a goal. If you can help your team to score a goal, it’s important, however you score. But when you score beautiful, of course, it’s more … nice, let’s say, that it’s beautiful. It feels really good.”

If one can get such comments from Zlatan, they must be truly special – which in the case of the Real Madrid talisman, is certainly an understatement.

Barcelona have displayed impressive performance this campaign, maintaining the unbeaten record throughout, exposing the finest of plays under Ernesto Valverde.

Nevertheless, they seemed as if they were about to savour the first defeat of the season last night while squaring their horns with Sevilla.

Coming off the bench late in the match, Lionel Messi has yet again influenced the scoreline with his sublime skills. The talisman presented his side a sensational equaliser in the final moments of the ninety minutes, preserving his side’s unbeaten run in the process.

The 30-year-old was benched due to continued muscle discomfort which had kept him from operating in the international friendlies against Spain and Italy.
