Manchester United may be frantically searching for quality players in the transfer window before it closes, but face having to let go of some of their own in order to make room for fresh faces.

Though the club has already made two outfield signings this summer, Jose Mourinho has made public his desire to bring in at least two more players before the end of the transfer window.

In the meantime, he risks losing some of the talent at his disposal, with the threat of being benched increasingly looming.

Defenders in particular face the biggest threat of being let go, with the manager stressing on defence as the area for an overhaul. But if reports from L’Equipe are to be believed, he isn’t ready to release one particular defender.

The player is Victor Lindelof, who has been linked with French side Lyon as of late. The Swede made only 13 starts in a largely uneventful first season at Old Trafford, but has retained the confidence of his manager, with Mourinho telling the board not to sell him.

Lindelof was signed from Benfica last summer for a fee of £31 million, but faced some injury problems and fell down the pecking order simply because of a stiff competition for places.

But the center-back proved his worth recently at the World Cup in Russia with his country Sweden, defending brilliantly when called upon and leading his side to an impressive quarter-final appearance.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of some debate, especially after United’s heavy interest in Harry Maguire of Leicester City became clear, but at this stage, it looks as if he’ll keep his place in the squad.

The same may not be said for Marcos Rojo, however, as the Argentine looks very likely to depart from Manchester United despite a decent showing for his country at the World Cup. But as always, only time will truly tell.
