Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has claimed that Marouane Fellaini made the difference for Manchester United in the latter’s 2-1 win in the Champions League.
The 30-year-old was introduced with United trailing the hosts 0-1 after going down post a crucial strike by Cristiano Ronaldo. But once Fellaini came on in the latter stages, the visitors began creating problems for Allegri’s men using his physical attributes.
Fellaini, who was praised by Jose Mourinho post the victory, has also been singled out by Allegri. The Juventus coach stated that the Belgian international controlled some high balls, and his presence was felt immediately.
“In the first game, they didn’t have Fellaini and we used his absence to our advantage,” Allegri stated.

“Tonight, he played and his physical presence was immediately felt. He controlled some high balls, although sometimes we were good at playing the ball on the ground.”
The Italian tactician felt that the free-kicks were the final blow, as the Red Devils sealed the match through them in a dramatic fashion in the final five minutes.

“Conceding those free-kicks was our greatest mistake. That happened and we paid the price. We’ll have to learn from that,” he added.
Juventus still lead Group H with 9 points from 4 matches, whilst Manchester United sit in 2nd place. If both teams win their respective matches on Matchday 5, then both will qualify for the knockout stages.

It is surprising to see the sheer scope of events that are given importance without fair confirmation. This idea of causation is usually taken from common sense. Like the notion that being stripped away from an honor will lead to some amount of unhappiness.
It was precisely this that much of the media postulated when Paul Pogba was stripped away from his vice-captaincy in September by Jose Mourinho.
The Frenchman’s relative youth and nearly inseparable bond from first-team appearances had made him an ideal candidate for proper captaincy down the line, and being reduced from even the role of a vice-captain was viewed as a big move.
However, despite the fact that the roles of captains and vice-captains are of no big consequence in the game of football, it was the symbolic significance of the move that had fueled speculation that Manchester United’s manager and player don’t share a fond rapport.

But Pogba has now given an intriguing reply. During the pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League clash against Juventus, Pogba was quizzed on what he felt about the move.
The Frenchman replied as such: “If he takes the armband away, it doesn’t change anything. I just want to play, perform and give my best. It didn’t affect me.”

Adding on to Mourinho’s response that all was fine between him and Pogba, the World Cup-winning midfielder affirmed the same: “Manager and player. I do as he tells me to do. I enjoy it. I do it with happiness.”
He further went on to add about his Old Trafford experience, stating: “Yes, I’m happy to wear the shirt, playing for this team. On the pitch, always with a smile.”
These replies are of great importance to the larger scheme of things, as both figures are deemed important by the club. Such an interaction certainly indicates a thawing in their relationship, and it will be interesting to see where we go from here.

Tuesday morning’s training session saw two Manchester United stars return from their respective injuries, but one high-profile player remained absent nonetheless.
Romelu Lukaku, who picked up an injury last Friday and subsequently missed the weekend Premier League fixture against Bournemouth, was once again a no-show today.
Manager Jose Mourinho had expected the Belgian international to be fully fit by now, but the forward’s absence means he shall remain unavailable for the Red Devils’ upcoming Champions League encounter against Juventus.
With the 25-year-old out, both Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez have a fair chance of starting in the main striker role at the Old Lady on Wednesday night.

On the other hand, the good news came in the form of Antonio Valencia, as the club captain returned to training after a prolonged spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.
Mourinho had recently taken a dig at the right-back for posting a video of himself on Instagram which suggested he was fully fit, which wasn’t the case.
Further, Marouane Fellaini has also made his comeback to training, having missed the past three weeks through an unspecified injury.
The Belgian’s return will add an extra dynamic to the Manchester United midfield, and provide cover if need be to the likes of Nemanja Matic, whose recent performance have attracted a lot of criticism from the fanbase.
